Back Acne: Causes, Treatment, Products

Back Acne also referred to as Backne is a condition of acne developing on the back of body even buttocks. It can take many forms like pustules or pimples or cysts. Back acne is a very common problem for people in age group 10 to 40 & almost everybody has experienced this problem once or more in his life. It can occur to anybody irrespective of sex or age or race.

Like any other form of acne, the exact cause behind back acne is also unknown. However it is believed that back acne is a result of excess oil production from sebaceous gland that result that result in clogging of pores. Hormonal imbalance is supposed to be the triggering agent for this excess oil production.

It is believed that back acne is aggravated by wearing tight fitting clothes that rub constantly against the acne affected skin, however since for most of the time we have to be fully clothed as well as be seated also, this suggestion does not goes a long way in preventing back acne. Similarly diet and back acne have shown no direct co-relation in medical tests. Also unlike in other types of acne, where heredity is considered a cause, in case of back acne it is not. Though it is very necessary to maintain yourself clean, excessive washing or clean will not help your back acne in any way.

Remember, the skin on your back is much more thick, so in comparison to facial acne back acne is more tough to deal with. There are quite a large number of treatments available for back acne including, over the counter products like a salicylic or glycolic acid based cleanser or a 2.5%-5% solution of benzoyl peroxide, herbal medicines and natural treatment. One thing that should be noted is that treatment of back acne requires some patience. It is not advisable to switch from one treatment to another without giving it a proper time.

Back acne is a very common problem and one should not loose self-confidence or undergo any kind of depression because of this. Don't give away your social life and don't stop participating in activities where your back is exposed like in swiming or athletics.
