While acne problems are most often associated with the face, body acne is also a big problem, and in fact acne is the number one skin problem in the country, affecting all areas of the body, not just the face. Blackheads and pimples don't only appear on the face. For some, acne breakouts can be more widespread, affecting larger areas of the body. Besides the face, acne commonly occurs on the back, chest, neck, shoulders, and upper arms. Many people experience acne in areas other than the face. Body acne looks like facial acne. These types of acne affect adults and teenagers.

Causes of body acne

There is no main cause of this type of acne, but hormones fluctuating and stress can associate them. In some cases, the tight fitting clothes may develop it. Some objects such as cell phones, tight collars, helmets, and backpacks at high risk of associating body acne.

Acne occurs when skin follicles get blocked by an accumulation of sebum and dead skin cells. Bacteria then move in to feast on the dead cells. The toxic chemicals released by the bacteria add up to the clogging of the skin pores resulting in eruptions.

Acne can occur in the form of white heads, blackheads, papules or cysts. Normally, it is accompanied by swelling and localized inflammation, and can be commonly seen in the face, neck, shoulder and back. But it is the face that bears the brunt of most acne flare-ups.

Hormonal disturbances in the body are another major reason for adult acne. They are largely triggered by Gonadotropins or the sex hormones which are known to affect the activity of sebaceous glands. Androgens too have pronounced affect on acne, especially among males.
